….By His Wounds we are healed

Volume XXIV, Number 7

Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,

Within this week, we honor The Nativity of St. John the Baptist, The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, The Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and Saints Peter and Paul. This is a powerful week declaring magnificent gifts of our faith!

St. John the Baptist was the forerunner of Christ. He was the cousin of Jesus who preached repentance for sin and foretold the coming of the Messiah. He said, ‘I am the voice of one crying in the desert, “Make straight the way of the Lord”’.  “I baptize with water; but in the midst of you there has stood One whom you do not know. He it is who is to come after me, Who has been set above me, the strap of Whose sandal I am not worthy to loose.” John was beheaded for those words of truth and chastisement, but he completed the work God had ordained for him in preparation for the Redeemer of the world.

Mary, the Mother of God and of the Church, gave her Immaculate Heart as co-redemptrix for us. When she said “Yes” to the Angel Gabriel, the impact of her ‘Fiat’ blesses us to this day. Her heart was broken at the crucifixion of her Son, yet she stood steadfast in faith and love as a mother then and as our mother today. We are meant to go to her, follow her example, give her our love, and trust in her guidance.

Jesus chose Peter as Head of the Church and ordained His Apostles at the Last Supper. This authority has been passed on to every legitimately ordained priest since that time. Our Sacramental life depends upon the ministry of the priesthood. Paul struck blind in a vision, was chosen by Christ Himself as an Apostle to the Gentiles. He preached to his death! Both Peter and Paul lived and died for Christ and His Mystical Body upon the earth. They stood fast for Christ and all He had given to His beloved offspring. Their blood has helped to sanctify the world.

Such magnificence is at the root of our Faith. The well-spring of grace flows to us through the life of Christ and through His Most Sacred Heart. It awaits our willingness to receive it through frequenting the Sacraments, especially, Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist, and molding our will and our actions to the treasures of that grace through the teachings of our Church. Heaven is the goal! Sanctification for eternity is our purpose and desire. Praised be Jesus Christ forever!

And so, we pray: O Lord, Jesus, cause those whom You refresh with the heavenly Sacrament, to imitate continually the example You gave, that being welcomed at the hour of our death by the Glorious Virgin Mother with Saints Joseph, John the Baptist, Peter and Paul, we may be found worthy to be received by You into Your everlasting dwellings. Amen.
