Reparation Thoughts
….By His Wounds we are healed
Volume XXV, Number 2
Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,
We are well into the Third Week of Lent and will honor Laetare Sunday this coming weekend with the wearing of Rose or Pink Vestments to mark the mid-point of this Holy Season.
I was at a meeting with co-workers in the medical field last week when in a conversation I mentioned that “I just love Lent!” One spoke up and called from across the room: “Mother! How can you possibly say that?” My response was quite simple. “We are Sisters of Reparation and a Community dedicated to the Sacred Wounds of Jesus. How much clearer could it be about our connection with what Lent is all about?” He just smiled.
Lent is a time of reparation and sacrifice. The two are tightly aligned. Consequently, the reason we Sisters take four vows at our profession: Poverty, Chastity, Obedience and Sacrifice! Lent is a marvelous opportunity for those who profess this call to reparation, for grace and comforting the Lord for our sins and the sins of all humankind.
Even in this third week, people comment how they have already broken their promises and goals for the season. That is not hard to do. The “One Below” is eager to convince us that any form of sacrifice or withholding pleasure is “too much for anyone to ask! What value does it have anyway?” He asserts. Any small or large sacrifice offered to our Beloved Lord has great potential. He can multiply its benefits a thousand-fold. His love is so great, He just wants to enfold us with it and bring us closer to all that is sacred and good.
If you are stumbling a bit on your Lenten journey, you might consider this meditation published in the bulletin at our local Church of St. Anthony.
FEASTING and FASTING
Lord Jesus, in this holy season of Lent help us to:
Fast from our busyness and Feast on the beauty of nature.
Fast from criticism and Feast on positive communication.
Fast from speaking and Feast on listening.
Fast from selfishness and Feast on generosity.
Fast from gossip and Feast on spreading the Good News.
Fast from apathy and Feast on enthusiasm.
Fast from complaining and Feast on giving compliments.
Fast from wasting time and Feast on spending more time in prayer.
But, most of all, O Lord, help us to Fast from all that keeps us from recognizing You in each other, and help us to Feast each day on Your unfailing love.
Wherever you may be on your Lenten journey, I pray that God may bless you abundantly with His ever-flowing grace, grant you peace, and wrap you in His strength and resilience!
