Reparation Thoughts
….By His Wounds we are healed
Volume XXIV, Number 10
Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,
We receive countless pieces of mail where organizations are requesting support. One of these caught my eye as I sat to write this meditation. It was a large photo of a Catholic country Church, simple in structure but quite beautiful. Stained glass windows covered all four sides. The slanted red roof was crowned with a Cross of gold. It sat in a flourishing green field with rushing ocean waters seen close by. The sky was blue and filled with birds of many species. A sandy reef was the highlight of children and families at play. It seemed to reside in a place of peace!
A Catholic Church is a house of the Lord, a dwelling place for the Most Blessed Sacrament. It is a source of quietude for troubled hearts; a refuge for sinners; an element that allows us to express our love and worship of God; a place of prayer. We know that our hearts can be lightened and comforted just by entering its portal.
This lovely photo reminded me of the inner possibilities each of us is given to grow in our relationship with the Lord. It is the invitation to a new life in and with Christ and the fullness of all God’s promises.
Just think, where there is life, there is hope! This body and soul of ours has a journey to fulfill. We are called to holiness. We are blessed by a sacramental life. Our souls were wiped clean through Baptism and many times throughout our days, by the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We don’t have to paint over the “dirt of sin” like a building. We know it is washed away. Each day we can begin anew and through our behaviors, grace can flow and help us do wondrous things for others just like that light through stained-glass windows. The doors of our heart can receive all who God places in our path to help form us, guide and direct us, and teach us how to love. When the storms of life try to shatter our peace and quietude, we have the stability to hold firm against those massive winds and rains. They can blow hard against our spiritual surface, but our soul’s resilience allows us to hold fast.
The key is to actively practice what our Church teaches, for all He has given and continues to give. The more we study and pray to understand the magnitude and beauty of His Word and Teaching, the stronger we become on this journey to holiness. Jesus is our lifeguard, our safeguard, our hope and the very essence of our faith. We have an irreplaceable treasure that we must guard and defend at all costs.
Be not discouraged or afraid! All things are possible to God! Keep your eye on what matters, what leads to eternity where the source of all grace abounds! God is love! Heaven is our goal!
