Reparation Thoughts
….By His Wounds we are healed
Volume XXIV, Number 11
Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,
As we encounter individuals throughout the week, we often receive requests for spiritual healings. They are asking us to join our prayers with theirs so that some heavy burden may be relieved. These may be physical ailments, family issues, alcohol or drug addictions, dryness in prayer, financial implications, loss of residence, or the death of a loved one.
Life is a journey. Sometimes the road is clear. But, often, something we would rather not face gets in the way. The years catch up with us. Human frailty becomes more evident. People we depended upon bring a disappointing response. Those we love are called home to heaven.
Each of these burdens reflect a loss for us and require us to change and adapt. Oftentimes, we are caught by surprise and feel so unprepared.
“That arthritis in my finger gets in the way of my cooking and writing!” “My back pain just won’t go away even with heat packs and therapy!” My beloved father died unexpectedly with a massive heart attack. We always made Tuesdays our day together!” “My son is divorcing his wife. They are fighting over the custody of the children. My grandchildren are too young to fully understand but I can see the disturbance in their behavior.” “I never thought my son would carry on the abuse that my husband used to do to me!” ”Father X is really struggling with his priesthood. He has been such a blessing to us, but we don’t know how to help him.” “Our neighbors used to be so compatible with our family. Now, all we hear is fighting in their home.” “Our parish is struggling financially, and parishioners are walking away. We feel so helpless. This is our home!”
When Jesus carried the Cross to Calvary and died such a scornful death, He carried the weight of our sins that day. His suffering and death brought about the opening of the doors of Paradise and eternal life became open for us. As Christians, we are called to be united to His Cross. We are reminded to “Take up your cross and follow ME!”
As we try to understand what we cannot change, we are invited to see the power of grace and blessing that is hidden in our “cross”. Mary Magdelene anointed His feet. Veronica wiped His face with her veil. John gave strength and support to His Mother. Mary was co-redemptrix walking that painful journey with her Son!
What can I do to relieve the burden? Where can I help those I love.? Prayer is a mighty healer. Presence is a strong support! Love transcends all barriers. Grace is heavens’ rich rainfall that nourishes every aspect of our lives. A human will united with God’s Will can move mountains!
Lord, show me Your will and teach me the mystery of Your endless love. Amen.
