Reparation Thoughts

….By His Wounds we are healed

Volume XXIV, Number 9

Dear Donnès of Reparation, Family and Friends,

A light rain fell upon Portland through the night. It was a most welcoming sight since the summer has been hot and very dry. No amount of watering feeds and nourishes the earth like God’s natural rainfall. Nature brightens and lifts its bowels in praise of Him when it is received.

We have often spoken about life’s challenging journey. God’s love and grace is sufficient for us to make it holy. The key is our personal stance to be ready, like the parched earth, to receive those gifts. So, I ask myself: Am I in the State of Grace? Have I attended Mass as regularly as I should? Do I pray every day? Is the Sacrament of Reconciliation being frequented? How is my personal journey toward holiness? If such things are in place, we can be open to receive the gifts God desires to send. We are prepared recipients for His unbounded love and grace!

St. Teresa of Avila writes: “The soul that truly loves God loves all good, protects all good, praises all good, joins itself to good people, helps and defends them, and embraces all the virtues. It loves only what is truly worth loving. Do you think it is possible for anyone who truly loves God, to care for vanities, riches, or worldly pleasures and honors? Such a person cannot quarrel or feel envy for they aim at nothing but pleasing the object of that love. Whether your love of God is great or small, it must show itself. Love for God can never be concealed. When you love God deeply it will be plainly evident in many ways, for a large fire throws a bright and clear flame. A love that is strong and just, that grows for as long as we live, that there is no reason to ever end, a love that is returned so fully—can a love such as this be concealed?

If you ask me how such a love is to be attained, my answer is: Resolve firmly to do and suffer for God, putting your resolution into action whenever the opportunity occurs. Your love must not be just something you imagine, something you desire. You must prove it by works.”

No one’s life is like another. Every one of us has been created in the image and likeness of God and none of us are precisely the same. That is how great and miraculous God’s love is! So, my friends, whether it is sun shining upon your days, or gentle rain, or heavy winds, or thick clouds, let your days be days of grace and love for God. Keep the flame burning brightly. Warm the hearts of all those you meet and encounter on your way. Praise God for everything! Let your love for Him and His Beloved Mother Mary, be your source of nourishment and peace!

There is no burden that they would not understand. There is no greater loss that we could endure that equals what they encountered for our salvation. There is no greater joy in life than what we receive from our loving God! We are blessed, indeed!
